Fragrance house
Molyneux
Edward Molyneux opened his own fashion house in Paris in November 1919. The house was associated with refined simplicity, precise tailoring, restrained decoration, and wearable clothing, and expanded to Monte Carlo in 1925, Cannes in 1927, and London in 1932. During the Second World War, the firm moved to London before returning to Paris in 1946. Molyneux retired in 1950 and transferred the fashion business to former assistant Jacques Griffe; he later opened Studio Molyneux in 1964, which continued under John Tullis until closing in 1977. Fragrance activity began during the fashion-house era, with Numéro Cinq from 1926, Vivre from 1930, and Rue Royale from 1943. The brand name was acquired by Interparfums in March 1994 and transferred to Parfums Berdoues in June 2006; Molyneux is listed in Berdoues Parfums et Cosmétiques’ selective-brand portfolio. The women’s Quartz line, launched in 1978, was identified as an especially prominent market vehicle for the brand in South America.
