Monsillage
Monsillage is a Montreal-based independent perfume house launched in 2009 by Isabelle Michaud after she studied perfumery at ISIPCA in Versailles, France. The brand grew from Michaud’s return to perfumery and from the experiences, travels, and personal memories that became sources of inspiration for her fragrances. As founder and perfumer, she gives Monsillage an auteur-led identity, translating geography, culture, lived experience, and elements of her Quebec background and terroir into scent. Its fragrance work received recognition at the Art and Olfaction Awards: Eau de Céleri won in the Artisan category in 2015, and by 2018 Monsillage had received a second award for Pays d’Ogon. Eau de Céleri is a particularly distinctive example of Michaud’s approach; its concept arose from her attempt to recreate the experience of celery despite an allergy to it.
