Montegrappa
Montegrappa’s identity is rooted in Italian heritage and geography, with a history that evolved from writing instruments into a broader luxury lifestyle company. In 1915, it introduced its first fountain pen, Reminiscence, whose faceted octagonal profile became a foundation of the brand’s style. A relationship with stationery merchant Leopoldo Tullio Aquila began in 1938 and established the family’s long association with the company. The 1992 80th Anniversary release marked a move toward treating writing instruments as a contemporary luxury category, while the 1995 Dragon design became a major stylistic and artistic milestone associated with Giuseppe Aquila’s growing influence. Richemont acquired Montegrappa in November 2000, and the Aquila family reacquired it in June 2009. The 2012 centenary included The Alchemist, created with Paulo Coelho, and a 2016 partnership with the Ernest Hemingway estate extended the brand’s literary collaborations. Abel Richard Bullock later joined the majority ownership group and partnered with Giuseppe Aquila to expand Montegrappa into new luxury categories. In fragrance, NeroUno extends the family’s octagonal design language from pens into a lifestyle collection.
