Fragrance house
Moodeaux
Moodeaux was founded by Brianna Arps after her 2018 layoff from editorial work; following aromatherapy study and three years of development, the brand debuted in fall 2021. Arps changed its planned name from Moode Beauty to Moodeaux after learning that a similar name had been filed for trademark purposes, combining “mood” with “eaux,” an allusion to eau de parfum. The brand links scent with memory, emotion, mood, self-care, and personal self-expression through the motto “Flaunt How You Feel,” while its skin-nurturing perfume formats combine lightweight oils with fragrance concentrates. Publicly identified as Black woman-owned, Moodeaux launched nationally through Credo Beauty in 2021 as the retailer’s first Black-owned fragrance label and later participated in Sephora’s Accelerate program. Arps also founded Black In Fragrance, which provides mentorship, resources, and grants for Black perfumers and Black-owned fragrance entrepreneurs. Worthy, Moodeaux’s debut fragrance, was conceived around reclaiming a sense of worth and received Byrdie’s “Best Overall” designation in a test of 17 pheromone perfumes.
