Mugham
Mugham is an Azerbaijani perfume house founded in 2020 by Eliza Akhundova and Mahmud Aliyev. Based in Baku, the privately held brand presents its fragrances as Made-in-France creations that interpret Azerbaijani cultural references through French perfumery. Its name and creative identity come from mugham, Azerbaijan’s historical musical and poetic tradition, and its fragrances are conceptually linked to the tradition’s seven principal modes. Developed with perfumers in Grasse over five years, the first seven fragrances were ready shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic, but their international launch was delayed for several years. Mugham appeared in the official exhibitor list for Esxence 2022 in Milan. Its signature perfume, 1752, was created in connection with Shusha’s liberation; its name refers to 1752, associated with the city’s foundation, and to the 2022 Year of Shusha. The fragrance’s concept draws on flowers associated with Karabakh, including the harybulbul, described as a symbol of the return of native lands to Azerbaijan.
