Mustela
Founded in 1950, Mustela began when entrepreneur Paul Berthomé and pharmacist Claude Guillon created a cleansing milk for babies’ skin. The brand evolved from baby care into wider family skincare, launching a women’s range in 1979 and the complete Mustela 9 Months pregnancy line in 1994. Its identity centers on care for babies, children, pregnant women, and families, drawing on neonatal dermatology, ingredients of natural origin, and plant-extraction knowledge. Established in 1982, the Mustela Foundation supports research and projects concerning child development and parenting worldwide. In 2012, a global study on the immature skin barrier of children under two and inherited skin types was published in the British Journal of Dermatology. Mustela is a family-owned, independent brand belonging to the family of its founder, and its history identifies his son Jean-Paul as leading the company. Its fragrance legacy is tied to the original cleansing milk, whose distinctive floral, spicy, powdery, musky, and creamy scent is described as a “Mustela accord” and used by perfumery schools as a reference for lilac’s odor.
