Fragrance house
Nanadebary
Nanadebary began in Vienna in 1998, when Nana de Bary opened an eponymous concept shop after living in New York. The boutique combined cosmetics, perfume, clothing and accessories, and about a year later de Bary introduced her own perfume line, beginning with a fragrance created with a Santa Maria Novella technician. The original collection comprised Green, Classic Pink and Bronze; Pink was described as the line’s signature rosy fragrance and reported as a hit, while subsequent scents reached retailers including Barneys New York. After surviving the 2004 Thailand tsunami and sustaining injuries, de Bary closed both boutique locations. She later said that her then-partner in the United States took over the existing Nanadebary line, and by 2014 she was no longer affiliated with the brand. That year, she returned to fragrance creation with Liaison de Parfum, a four-scent collection developed over more than five years in France. Designed around different phases in the lives of people she admired, its deliberately unbranded flacons and handwritten names reflected her continuing interest in memory, individuality and emotionally framed perfume.
