Nanette Lapore
Nanette Lepore’s business began in New York in 1987, when Nanette Lepore and Robert Savage opened the Lower East Side store Robespierre; the label later adopted Lepore’s name. The eponymous brand presented its first collection in New York’s Garment District in 1992. Its creative identity centered on feminine, romantic clothing marked by vivid colors, lively prints, defined waists, frills, and vintage influence, with Lepore directing the creative work and Savage managing the business. In January 2015, the brand announced a strategic agreement with Bluestar Alliance to extend it into licensed categories and markets. By September 2020, Bluestar Enterprises owned the eponymous brand, Lepore had closed her design studio, and her own fashion designs were being phased out while licensed products continued. The Spring 2020 New York Fashion Week presentation was reported as the brand’s last fashion collection. In fragrance, Nanette Lepore’s first scent launched in 2004 and was designed to complement the clothing.
