Naoko

Naoko refers to Naoko Kusunoki, a Japanese olfactory artist and perfumer, rather than a separately documented fragrance house. After studying international politics and graphic design at university, Kusunoki pursued graduate study in olfactory art within contemporary art. She founded YOUR EXCLUSIVE, a Tokyo- and Kyoto-based brand specializing in perfumery made without relying on ready-made products, and since 2019 has operated a bespoke perfume studio while developing scent work for exhibitions and other artistic projects. The practice treats scent as a medium for artistic expression across exhibitions and other forms, including spatial, fabric, paper, and object-based works. In 2024, Kusunoki created five custom aromas for a live performance of Scriabin’s Sonatas, linking each scent to a late sonata and diffusing them during the concert. The studio’s current public offering includes bespoke fragrance creation and participatory olfactory sessions.
