Nasomatto

Nasomatto was founded in Amsterdam in 2007 by Italian perfumer Alessandro Gualtieri. The house developed from Gualtieri’s break with industrial fragrance briefs into an author-led project under his own direction; its name combines the Italian words for “nose” and “mad,” reflecting its deliberately unconventional positioning. The first Nasomatto fragrance series appeared in 2008, establishing a concentrated extrait format and a practice of describing concepts rather than publishing conventional note lists. Black Afgano, released in 2009 after six years of development, is the brand’s clearest defining fragrance and has been identified as its bestseller; the composition aims to evoke high-quality hashish. In 2014, Gualtieri extended his creative work into the sister house Orto Parisi, presented as a distinct evolution from Nasomatto with a more bodily and animalic vocabulary.
