Nino Cerruti

Nino Cerruti’s heritage traces to 1881, when his grandfather Antonio founded Lanificio Cerruti, a textile business in Biella, Piedmont, Italy. Nino Cerruti took over the family business in 1950 and began modernising it to include clothing production. He founded HITMAN in 1957 and launched his own Cerruti 1881 menswear label in Paris in November 1967, opening its first boutique at Place de la Madeleine. In 1968, the house presented men and women in the same clothes on the runway, then introduced its first women’s collections in the mid-1970s. Cerruti’s design language included the deconstructed jacket, a 1970s innovation that helped introduce a more casual approach to high-end menswear. The house combines French fashion-house positioning with Italian textile heritage and streamlined, refined design. In 2023, Guangzhou-based Biem.L.Fdlkk Garment acquired the global trademark rights to Cerruti 1881. In fragrance, Cerruti 1881 Pour Homme, launched in 1990, is identified as a brand bestseller and classic; Cerruti 1881 also has a corresponding Pour Femme expression.
