Nissaba
Nissaba is a Geneva-based fragrance brand launched in 2022 by Sébastien Tissot and Éric Stucky de Quay. Tissot’s earlier work in sustainable sourcing of natural ingredients at DSM-Firmenich helped shape the idea for the brand, while Stucky de Quay joined the project in 2021 with commercial and distribution experience from L’Oréal and Memo International. Named after the Sumerian deity associated with grain, agriculture, and writing, Nissaba links that symbolism to agricultural education and knowledge transfer. Its fragrances are conceived around the natural ingredients and olfactory character of specific producing regions, alongside a stated purpose of supporting communities involved in cultivating and harvesting perfume plants through partnerships with agricultural schools and support for young agri-entrepreneurs. The Mahadera vocational school in Madagascar, launched in 2016 by Authentic Products and DSM-Firmenich under Tissot’s co-leadership, helped inspire the brand, which later extended support to its graduates. Grande-Île, representing Madagascar in this terroir-based approach, was created with materials including vanilla, pink pepper, black pepper, and clove and received the Fragrance Foundation France Responsible Innovation Award for a Perfume in the “Hope of Perfumery” category in 2023.
