Nōrtean

Nōrtean is an artisan perfume house from Riga, Latvia, founded in 2023 by self-taught perfumer Arturs Petersons, who developed the house through the study of aromatic materials and the translation of emotions and stories into scent. Combining contemporary romanticism with Northern European biodiversity, its perfumes are conceived as olfactory narratives or conceptual realms. Its first three creations—Ertale, Ashen, and Herbaria—drew on Baltic flora; subsequent work began with stories intended to be told through scent. Liblium was made for the release of Biblihigianse’s book and follows the book’s imagined lifecycle from printing and paper to its presence on library shelves. In 2026, Cindence extended this creative practice into interdisciplinary scent art when it was presented at Riga’s Scent + Art Festival through a collaboration involving perfume, performance, music, and visual expression.
