Olay

Olay began in 1952 when South African chemist Graham Wulff created Beauty Fluid for his wife. Originating in South Africa, the brand became available internationally in the late 1950s and early 1960s, then expanded during the 1970s from its original beauty fluid into a broader skincare range. In 1985, Procter & Gamble agreed to acquire Richardson-Vicks, the company that marketed Oil of Olay; Olay is now included in P&G’s Skin and Personal Care portfolio. Its regional names included Oil of Ulay, Oil of Ulan, and Oil of Olaz before the brand was consolidated under the Olay name internationally in 1999, with regional exceptions. Olay’s public identity is centered on science-led skincare, encompassing skin research, ingredients, technology, and clinically tested formulas. In 1991, it introduced antioxidants and UVA/UVB protection; Total Effects introduced niacinamide in 2000, peptides followed in 2002, and the Whips collection launched in 2018.
