Old England
Founded in Paris’s Opéra district in 1867 by Alexandre Henriquet, Old England began as a retailer of British products and became associated with British style and culture in France. The business moved to 12 boulevard des Capucines in 1886, where its Paris flagship remained for more than a century. Shaped by four generations of the founding family, its identity combined inherited tradition with adaptation to contemporary fashion. In 1999, Richemont acquired Old England, and in 2006 announced an agreement to sell its interest to Tercade SA, a holding company controlled by Olivier Goldberg. During the Richemont period, Old England was repositioned in 2005 as an ambassador for young English designers in Paris, while Central Saint Martins students reinterpreted its traditional duffel coat. The Paris store closed permanently on 31 March 2012, with its historic façade preserved. The name continued in Japan, including a mixed Old England store reported to have opened in Tokyo’s Shibuya district in 2020.
