Old Navy
Old Navy opened its first store in Colma, California, on March 19, 1994, after Gap Inc. converted Gap Warehouse outlets into a separate retail identity. It was created as a lower-priced, casual, warehouse-style family-apparel format distinct from Gap’s more upscale stores, and expanded into Canada in 2001. Today, Old Navy remains a North American value-apparel brand within Gap Inc., with an identity centered on accessible style, family apparel, inclusivity, opportunity, and sustainability. Gap Inc. announced plans in February 2019 to separate Old Navy into an independent publicly traded company, but abandoned the proposal in January 2020, citing the cost and complexity of the separation and softer business performance. In October 2025, Old Navy launched its first designer collaboration, a limited-edition capsule with Anna Sui, adding a designer-led element to its family-oriented fashion offering.
