Fragrance house
Oliver & Co
Founded in Madrid in 2009 by self-taught perfumer Oliver Valverde, Oliver & Co. grew from his home experiments with scented candles and fragrance materials into a personal-fragrance house. Its creative language is handmade, experimental, abstract and intuitive: Valverde has described working without a preconceived fragrance idea, while the brand’s public identity emphasized curiosity and a search for the new and unknown through unexpected scents. The first fragrance collection began as a limited market test; after it sold well, Valverde obtained more materials and developed a basic permanent offering. In 2018, Oliver & Co. withdrew from third-party retailers and focused sales through its online store and Madrid flagship to build a more direct customer relationship and increase creative freedom. In July 2020, Valverde rebranded his perfume work as Avant-Garden Lab, carrying over nearly all of the Oliver & Co. fragrances with new packaging and visual identity, and shifting its public creative themes toward nature, abstraction, synesthesia, outer space, laboratories, psychology, avant-garde design, music, and unusual natural materials and molecules. M.O.U.S.S.E. was Valverde’s first perfume and the best-seller of Oliver & Co.’s first collection.
