Olympic Orchids

Olympic Orchids began as an orchid nursery established by Dr. Ellen Covey in 2006, with its perfume business established in 2010. The business grew from Covey’s fascination with the varied fragrances of orchid flowers and her attempts to recreate or interpret them as perfumes. Based in the Seattle area of the Pacific Northwest, Olympic Orchids continues to be shaped by Covey, its principal perfumer and creative figure. Her background in chemical senses and sensory processing informs the work, while Pacific Northwest forests, beaches, mountains, and other natural features recur as creative influences. The house has expanded beyond its original orchid-inspired line into classical, experimental, nature-inspired, and place-inspired concepts. In 2015, Woodcut won the Artisan Category of the Art and Olfaction Awards; the fragrance centers on freshly cut wood, sap, and caramelized resin. By 2020, after Zoologist discontinued Covey’s original Bat, she retained the formula and sold it through Olympic Orchids as Night Flyer.
