Olympic Orchids Artisan Perfumes
Olympic Orchids, Inc. was established by Dr. Ellen Covey in 2006 as an orchid plant nursery, and its perfume business followed in 2010. Based in the Seattle area, the perfume business is a small family enterprise owned and perfumed by Covey, who formulates its fragrances. The line grew from her fascination with orchid scents, beginning with orchid-inspired compositions before extending into classical, highly experimental, special-edition, and natural perfume styles. Her work draws on scientific training in chemical senses, orchid-growing experience, and an interest in woods, resins, incense, musks, herbs, spices, and unconventional materials. Woodcut, which translates the smell of freshly cut wood into an olfactory work connected to nature and deforestation, won the Artisan Category of the 2015 Art and Olfaction Awards. Covey also created Bat for Zoologist, a 2016 Independent Category winner; Olympic Orchids introduced Night Flyer in 2020 as the original Bat composition associated with that collaboration.
