Omega
Omega began in 1848, when Louis Brandt opened a watchmaking workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The Omega name came from the Brandt brothers’ 19-ligne movement introduced in 1894, and the company adopted Omega in its corporate name in 1903. Omega joined SSIH with Tissot in 1930; the later merger of SSIH and ASUAG created corporate foundations of today’s Swatch Group, where Omega is currently a watch brand. Milestones include becoming Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games in 1932, the Speedmaster’s qualification by NASA in 1965 for all piloted space missions and association with Apollo 11’s 1969 lunar landing, and the Seamaster’s connection with James Bond films since 1995, beginning with GoldenEye. Technical milestones include the Co-Axial escapement, launched in 1999, and the Master Chronometer standard introduced in 2015. In 2022, Swatch and Omega collaborated on the Bioceramic MoonSwatch collection, linking Omega’s Speedmaster design language with Swatch’s product platform.
