One Direction

One Direction was formed on 23 July 2010 after its members auditioned separately for the seventh season of the UK television talent show The X Factor, with Simon Cowell helping assemble the group. Its recording identity began with the September 2011 debut single “What Makes You Beautiful,” which entered the UK Singles Chart at number one; the group’s first four studio albums each debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. The band’s fragrance business began with a licensing partnership announced in December 2012 between One Direction and Olivann Beauty. Our Moment launched in 2013 and was reported as the fastest-selling female fragrance of that year, following substantial advance reservations before its Harrods launch. Zayn Malik left the group in March 2015. After the fifth album was released later that year, the remaining members stopped group activity and pursued solo work, and the band was subsequently described as being on indefinite hiatus from 2016. Liam Payne’s death in October 2024 was the first death among the group’s members.
