Otto Kern
Otto Kern was founded in Kaiserslautern in 1970, when Otto Kern established Otto Kern GmbH & Co. KG after launching his own shirt collection. The brand began with men’s shirts, expanded into a women’s collection, and later added fragrances, soaps, and other cosmetics; its strongest public growth period was the 1980s. Kern became publicly associated with shirts and blouses, while the brand’s logo used a stylized K with a lion. In 2000, he sold the brand rights to Ahlers AG and withdrew from public life. After Ahlers entered insolvency proceedings in 2023, Modepark Röther acquired its core business, including the Otto Kern shares, in July that year. Founded in 2023, the R.Brand Group currently lists Otto Kern among its fashion brands, with fragrances produced under license by Mäurer & Wirtz since 2006.
