P.F. Candle Co.

P.F. Candle Co. began in 2008 as a one-woman Etsy shop founded by Kristen Pumphrey. After losing her publishing job during the recession, Pumphrey moved from New York to Austin, where she sold handmade goods, including candles, through Etsy and craft fairs. In 2012, the business moved to Southern California, and Thomas Neuberger joined as an official business partner after Pumphrey secured a large national-retailer order. Originally operated as Pommes Frites Candle Co., the business later adopted the shorter P.F. Candle Co. name to avoid confusion around the French-fries reference. It is independently owned and operated by wife-and-husband co-owners Pumphrey and Neuberger. The brand treats fragrance as an extension of home design, drawing on California, travel, memory, nature, and mood for scents intended as subtle additions to everyday life. Teakwood & Tobacco, built around leather, teak, and orange, is the fragrance that started it all and a best seller.
