P.Frapin & Cie
P.Frapin & Cie draws its identity from the Frapin family, which settled in Segonzac, Charente, in 1270 as winegrowers and developed a cognac heritage that informs the house. The family history includes Pierre Frapin, apothecary to Louis XIV, and a connection to François Rabelais; its coat of arms was created in 1697. The estate’s history includes Château Fontpinot, completed in 1872, and a Segonzac cellar whose iron framework was constructed by Gustave Eiffel’s team in 1892. The fragrance activity dates to 2004. Béatrice Cointreau initiated 1270 with ISIPCA, drawing on Frapin cognac, and David Frossard later secured a license for the perfume products and developed the line’s artistic direction. Its fragrance identity links the estate and Charente to French cultural references and stories associated with literature, boxing, travel, and Rabelais. 1270 is identified as P.Frapin & Cie’s iconic fragrance and the scent most closely connected to cognac; L’Humaniste received the 2010 Cosmetic Mag award for best masculine fragrance.
