Pani Walewska

Pani Walewska was introduced in 1971 by the Kraków cosmetics company Miraculum, whose history reaches back to a 1924 founding in Kraków by Leon Luser. The name invokes Maria Walewska, a Polish aristocrat associated with Napoleon Bonaparte, while the bottle’s design is styled after Napoleon’s hat. The brand developed into a broader beauty line spanning facial care and perfumery, with its perfumes created with French fragrance creators. In 2010/11, it ran the “Timeless Beauty” campaign in support of its Gold and Chic lines. A visual update followed in 2019, bringing new packaging, a new bottle, a new logo, and new communications while leaving the formulas unchanged; Miraculum’s 2021 investor presentation records Pani Walewska among the brands rebranded in 2020. Its fragrance legacy includes Pani Walewska Classic, described as the brand’s bestselling perfume and as having survived unchanged for more than half a century. Pani Walewska also held cult status in the cultural history of 1970s Poland, linking it to the country’s socialist-era fragrance culture.
