Parfums Corania
Parfums Corania was founded in Marseille in 1934 by Fernand Cohen, a 21-year-old trained perfumer. Cohen developed alcohol-free perfume for markets including Muslim populations in West Africa; the name Corania refers to conformity with Qur’anic rules concerning alcohol. The business remained family-led across three generations: his sons Jean-Luc and Bernard continued it for more than 50 years, followed by his grandson Laurent Cohen. Laurent joined in 1999, worked on international development, and helped develop Solinotes, a collection commercialized from 2011 around individual fragrances built on key notes that can be combined into personal compositions. In 2014, Corania partnered with the New Zealand Rugby Union to create and distribute an All Blacks fragrance line, its first licensed-brand fragrance project. During the 2020 COVID-19 crisis, it temporarily shifted from perfume to hydroalcoholic gel and donated gel and 100,000 euros to Marseille hospitals. As of 2025, Corania remained a family fragrance company, with Laurent representing the current generation and continuing to develop and manufacture fragrances.
