Penthouse
Penthouse was founded in London by publisher Bob Guccione in 1965 before moving to the United States. Its identity combined sexually explicit photography with investigative journalism and commentary on politics, government, religion, and social issues. The publication’s editorial record includes investigations into veterans’ issues and corruption, as well as receiving the Unabomber manifesto in 1995 alongside The New York Times and The Washington Post. Ownership changed in February 2016, when newly formed Penthouse Global Media, led by Kelly Holland, acquired the brand from FriendFinder Networks. That company entered bankruptcy protection in January 2018, and its parent was sold at auction in June of that year to Czech operator WGCZ Ltd. XBIZ reported in 2020 that WGCZ had owned the brand since 2018, while the current website identifies Penthouse World Media, LLC as its copyright holder. The available evidence documents licensed-product expansion but does not establish a particular fragrance as a signature or defining commercial success.
