Pertegaz
Founded in Barcelona in 1942 by Spanish designer Manuel Pertegaz, Pertegaz established an international profile during the 1950s through collections presented in the United States and recognition with Harvard University’s Fashion Oscar. After Christian Dior’s death, Pertegaz was considered as a possible successor but declined to continue developing his own house. In 1965, he launched Diagonal, identified as the first perfume associated with an internationally recognized Spanish fashion designer; the fragrance line later included Muy Pertegaz in 1975 and Pertegaz Sport in 1982. A major late-career milestone came in 2004, when Pertegaz designed Queen Letizia’s wedding dress, alongside retrospective exhibitions at Madrid’s Reina Sofía Museum and Barcelona’s Palau Robert. Following Manuel Pertegaz’s death in 2014, the legacy remained with his nieces and longtime associate Ángel Tribaldos. In 2019, the heirs granted Jealfer a long-term license for women’s prêt-à-porter and relaunched the line. The brand’s public fashion identity combines 1960s references with tailoring, broad silhouettes, draping, graphic prints, and fuchsia.
