Phuong Dang

Phuong Dang is a Vietnam-born artist whose early career included international high-fashion makeup and creative direction for Elite Model Agency Worldwide, followed by an MFA in fine arts at Goldsmiths, University of London. In 2015, she began developing an inaugural fragrance collection of ten perfumes and ten candles with perfumers including Bertrand Duchaufour. The eponymous line launched publicly in New York on September 28, 2016, under the concept “Liquid Emotion,” which treated fragrance as an extension of visual art and a medium for expressing emotion and the human spirit. The collection entered Barneys New York through a one-year exclusive distribution arrangement in October 2016. Phuong Dang Perfumes is operated by Sator Square Inc. Its current public identity centers on The 8 States of Freedom collection, which connects scent with chosen emotional or personal states. Artist is the brand’s clearest externally documented defining fragrance, appearing in The Fragrance Foundation’s 2018 Indie Fragrance of the Year category and receiving a FiFi nomination. In 2026, the business was being relaunched after disruption from Barneys New York’s bankruptcy and the COVID-19 pandemic, with renewed emphasis on ritual, emotional well-being, and personal performance.
