Phyto
Created by Parisian hairdresser Patrick Alès and presented publicly in 1965, Phyto grew from his interest in using plants for gentler hair care, combining botanical extracts with scientific validation. Its early milestones included Alès’s invention of the blow-dry technique in 1964, the development of plant-based hair care known as Phytotherathrie in 1967, and the creation of Phytosolba Laboratories in 1969. In 1998, Phyto extended its range with Phyto Specific, addressing curly, coiled, and relaxed hair. The brand was part of Alès Groupe until September 2020, when Impala took over the group’s cosmetic activities, including Phyto, following a decision by the Paris Commercial Court. Today, Laboratoire Native owns Phyto’s official site and associated intellectual-property elements. Phyto’s public identity remains rooted in botanical hair care and professional hairstyling, with links to Parisian salons and haute couture backstage work. In 2024, the brand relaunched a streamlined range with simplified formulas and packaging centered on rosemary and white mallow.
