PI Original

PI Original corresponds to Givenchy PI, a woody-amber fragrance launched in 1998 by the Givenchy beauty and fragrance house. The wider house was founded in Paris in 1952, when Hubert de Givenchy opened his eponymous couture house. Its early identity paired tradition with irreverence, and its first collection, “Séparables,” helped establish women’s separates and a casual-chic approach. Givenchy entered fragrance in 1957 with L’Interdit, created by Hubert de Givenchy for Audrey Hepburn before being released publicly, and introduced its first men’s fragrances in 1959. The house joined LVMH in 1988, and Hubert de Givenchy retired in 1995. Creative leadership thereafter included John Galliano in 1995, Alexander McQueen in 1996, and Riccardo Tisci from 2005 to 2017, whose darker, street-influenced direction reshaped Givenchy’s public fashion identity. In September 2024, Sarah Burton became creative director for the women’s and men’s collections. L’Interdit is a defining Givenchy fragrance example, originally created in 1957 and continually reinvented since 2018.
