Pineider

Founded in Florence in 1774, Pineider began when Francesco Pineider opened its first shop in Piazza della Signoria after moving from Val Gardena. The business evolved from stationery, bespoke printing, and engraved paper into writing instruments, leather goods, and desk products; in the nineteenth century, it also expanded into maps, guides, postcards, bags, briefcases, satchels, and portable writing desks. A 1966 Florence flood destroyed Pineider’s archives and historical materials, while its current history presents continuity and memory as part of its identity after that disruption. After leaving the founding family in the 1990s, Pineider changed hands several times before the Rovagnati family acquired it in 2016; the transaction closed on 13 January 2017. A reorganization followed during 2017–2019, affecting the supply chain, production organization, and product. Today, Pineider’s public identity centers on paper, leather goods, and writing instruments, with an emphasis on Florentine craftsmanship, tangible objects, durability, and continuity with its historical expertise. Its contemporary identity has also been shaped by collaborations with Poltrona Frau, Massimo Giorgetti, Carolina Bucci, and Pierfrancesco Favino.
