Playboy
Playboy began in 1953 as a men’s lifestyle magazine and expanded into entertainment, hospitality, and licensing. Its public identity centers on pleasure and leisure, alongside equality, freedom of expression, cultural progress, and the view that pleasure is a fundamental human right. The company was publicly traded from 1973 until 2011, when an affiliate of Rizvi Traverse Management completed a transaction that returned it to private ownership and reorganized its corporate structure. In 2021, Playboy Enterprises merged with Mountain Crest Acquisition Corp.; the public parent was later renamed Playboy, Inc. on June 25, 2025. Between 2019 and 2021, the company acquired Honey Birdette and a content-creator platform later redeveloped as Playboy Club. In 2024, Playboy announced that its print magazine would return in February 2025, alongside a redesigned Playboy.com and revived Playmate-related franchises. A global men’s fragrance license with Coty was announced in 2008, and SA Designer Parfums acquired the Playboy fragrance license in 2018 and uses Playboy trademarks under license.
