Prescriptives
Prescriptives was established by The Estée Lauder Companies in 1979 as a beauty brand built around personalized color cosmetics. Its identity centered on custom-blended makeup and Colorprint shade matching across a wide range of skin tones, a concept led by Sylvie Chantecaille after the Lauder family asked her to create the company that became Prescriptives. The brand was an Estée Lauder heritage brand until fiscal 2010, when the company exited global wholesale distribution. Prescriptives was relaunched in 2011 as an online-only brand, then closed its doors in 2019 after 40 years; Estée Lauder’s corporate FAQ records it as discontinued in December 2020. In fragrance, Calyx is the clearest legacy example: introduced as a Prescriptives fragrance, it was described through grapefruit, tropical fruit, white flowers, moss and woods, and Chantecaille later called it a best-selling launch.
