Proenza Schouler
Proenza Schouler was founded in New York in 2002 by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, who met at Parsons School of Design. Its name combines their mothers’ maiden names. The founders’ Parsons thesis collection was bought by Barneys, and one piece appeared in Vogue’s September 2002 issue in a photograph by Helmut Newton. The label’s work emphasizes craft, fine materials, and constructed womenswear and accessories. It won the inaugural CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2004 and has received five CFDA awards, including Womenswear Designer of the Year in 2007, 2011, and 2013. After Castanea Partners acquired a minority stake in 2015, McCollough and Hernandez bought back the company with a new group of private investors on November 12, 2018, reacquiring interests held by Castanea and other investors. In 2025, Rachel Scott was appointed creative director, while the founders moved to Paris to lead Loewe’s creative direction. Its debut fragrance, Arizona, was developed with L’Oréal under a license signed in June 2015 and launched in 2017 after two years of collaboration.
