Quicksilver
Known officially as Quiksilver, the brand was founded in 1969 in Torquay, Australia, by surfers Alan Green and John Law, who began by making boardshorts for surfers. Its early identity was rooted in functional surf clothing and boardriding culture, later extending into wetsuits, outerwear, and apparel for mountain and water activities. In September 2015, Quiksilver’s U.S. units entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, with ownership proposed to transfer to noteholders led by Oaktree Capital Management. Following the restructuring, the corporate name changed to Boardriders in 2017, while Quiksilver remained part of the group. Boardriders acquired Billabong International in 2018, bringing the two surf brands together alongside Roxy, DC Shoes, RVCA, Element, VonZipper, and Xcel. Authentic Brands Group announced an agreement to purchase Boardriders in April 2023, and as of June 2024 remained Quiksilver’s owner.
