Raffaella Curiel

Raffaella Curiel traces its family fashion history to Trieste, where Ortensia Curiel founded a tailoring atelier in the early 20th century; the family later moved to Milan, and Gigliola Curiel opened an atelier there in 1945. Gigliola developed the Milan house through designs including the Curiellino dress and work associated with La Scala, while the house presented Italian fashion internationally through Bergdorf Goodman and Harrods. Raffaella Curiel joined her mother in the 1960s, presented her own prêt-à-porter work in the mid-1960s, and opened her own Milan atelier in 1970. The house’s creative identity is associated with Italian haute couture and with artistic and cultural references, including La Scala, music, and visual art. In the 1990s, Gigliola Castellini Curiel joined Raffaella in the atelier and debuted her own line in 1998. In 2016, RedStone Haute Couture acquired a majority stake, and Curiel Ltd. was formed to hold the maison’s brands and archive; Raffaella and Gigliola Curiel continued the creative work.
