Rammstein

Rammstein is a German band formed in Berlin in 1994. Its early development followed a Berlin amateur-band competition that led to a professional demo recording, and the debut album Herzeleid appeared in 1995. The band’s international profile expanded after Trent Reznor selected two Rammstein songs for David Lynch’s 1997 film Lost Highway. The fragrance line extends the band rather than an independently founded perfume house, and every fragrance requires the band’s approval. Its creative direction was designed to continue Rammstein’s DNA instead of following a conventional celebrity-fragrance model, with perfumer Alexandre Illan describing a brief that was deliberately unpleasant, animalic, and dirty. Illan said the first fragrance project began in 2017; Zwinger arrived in 2019 in a black bottle with a pipette, followed by Kokain that year. Zwinger is presented as an extreme, animalic scent associated with the band’s darker identity, while Kokain draws on drug, fuel, smoke, leather, and fire imagery. The concepts were developed in collaboration with the band to match its world, speech, and image.
