Real Madrid

Real Madrid traces its formal foundation to 6 March 1902, when it was established as Madrid Football Club under the first board presided over by Juan Padrós. In 1905, it won its first national title by defeating Athletic Club in the Spanish Cup final, and in 1909 it was among the founding sides of the Spanish Football Federation. King Alfonso XIII granted the club the title “Real” in 1920, adding the royal designation to its name and emblem. The institution describes its identity through excellence, a winning spirit, teamwork, universality, solidarity, respect and humility. In 2024, Real Madrid won its 15th European Cup, extending its record total in the competition. The name is also used in licensed perfumery and toiletries represented by Air-Val International.
