Fragrance house
Realm
Realm traces its origins to EROX Corporation, founded in 1989 by David Berliner to develop consumer products containing pheromones or pheromone-like compounds. EROX developed Realm as its first fragrance venture, launching separate Realm Women and Realm Men fragrances in 1993. The brand’s original identity centered on fragrances incorporating synthetic or naturally occurring human-pheromone compounds, connected to EROX’s research into human chemical communication. Berliner developed the underlying research and compounds, while Pierre de Champfleury, previously head of Yves Saint Laurent’s fragrance division, led the fragrance-development effort. In 1998, EROX changed its corporate name to Human Pheromone Sciences, Inc., while Realm’s fragrance lines continued within its portfolio. In April 2003, the company sold Realm Women, Realm Men, inner Realm, and associated trademarks and worldwide ownership rights to Niche Marketing Group, transferring the business, goodwill, formulas, know-how, and exclusive rights to market, produce, and distribute the lines. Realm’s fragrance legacy is represented by its paired 1993 launches, Realm Women and Realm Men, which embodied the brand’s pheromone-fragrance concept.
