Repetto

Founded by Rose Repetto in 1947 near Paris’s National Opera, Repetto began as a dance-shoe workshop established on the advice of her son, dancer and choreographer Roland Petit. Its early identity rested on dance footwear and the stitch-and-return construction; in 1956, Rose Repetto adapted that technique to create a city ballerina for Brigitte Bardot. The brand’s cultural profile later grew through artistic associations, including Serge Gainsbourg’s adoption of the Zizi oxford in 1970 and collaborations with Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garçons and Karl Lagerfeld between 2000 and 2009. After Rose Repetto’s death in 1984, the company passed through Esmark and Banques populaires before Jean-Marc Gaucher acquired it in 1999. Repetto diversified in the 2010s with Atelier Repetto, a training school and its first fragrance, launched in 2013. In 2024, Simon Porte Jacquemus reinterpreted the Zizi for the Les Sculptures runway show.
