Revelations

Founded in 1998 outside Philadelphia, Revelations develops private-label fragrances and offers its own fine fragrances. The company was established by Larry and Carol Couey, whose earlier experience included Larry’s cofounding of Parfums de Coeur in 1981 and Carol’s work in scent development at Ralph Lauren Fragrances; Larry had also worked in consumer-product marketing at Bath & Body Works. In 2007, Revelations entered an agreement to develop and market the 3121 fragrance collection with musician Prince. Prince participated in the fragrance’s development and packaging decisions through multiple meetings with the company, linking the project to his 2006 album and public creative identity. Revelations also created Stoked, a surf-inspired fragrance for professional surfer Bethany Hamilton. The 3121 partnership later produced a legal milestone: in 2012, a New York court confirmed a default judgment concerning the collection’s development and marketing.
