Rifat Ozbek

Rıfat Özbek, born in Istanbul in 1953, studied architecture in England and then fashion at Central Saint Martins, graduating in 1977. He founded his own fashion house, Ozbek, in 1984. The label joined his Turkish heritage to multicultural references and modern Western clothing forms, drawing on sources including Africa, the Far East, and the Ottoman Empire. Özbek won British Designer of the Year in 1988 and 1992. In 1995, he launched Ozbek, described as his signature women’s fragrance. After three decades in fashion, he shifted his primary creative focus to interior design in 2005, creating YASTIK with Erdal Karaman. Centered on cushions using hand-woven ikats and suzani embroideries, YASTIK launched in London in 2010.
