Riva
Riva traces its history to 1842, when Pietro Riva established a boatyard in Sarnico on Lake Iseo after repairing fishing boats damaged by a storm. Over the following generations, Ernesto Riva introduced internal-combustion engines and Serafino Riva shifted production toward motorboats after the First World War; racing boats won national and international competitions in the 1920s and 1930s. In the 1950s and 1960s, Carlo Riva transformed the company’s wooden-boat design, with architect and designer Giorgio Barilani joining the yard in 1956. The Aquarama, created in 1962, became Riva’s defining model and most famous powerboat, with 765 built before production ended in 1996. Riva entered fiberglass construction in 1969 while continuing to make wooden runabouts until 1996, and after Ferretti Group acquired the company in May 2000, the first Aquariva was launched. Today, Riva is part of Ferretti Group and is associated with Italian boatbuilding, design, its aquamarine color, and a cultural presence in film and design. Its fragrance record comprises four entries dated 2007 and 2008, including the 2008 aromatic aquatic men’s fragrance Follia di Aquarama, whose name links it to the Aquarama identity.
