roberta Camerino
Roberta di Camerino was established in Venice in 1945 by Italian designer Giuliana Coen Camerino. The name joins Roberta, her daughter’s name, with Camerino, her married surname, while the house’s R logo originated as a belt-buckle motif. The house became internationally known for colored velvet handbags, Venetian craftsmanship, gold detailing, and red, green, and blue combinations. Introduced in the early 1950s, the Bagonghi handbag became a defining design associated with the house and was linked with Grace Kelly. Coen Camerino received the Neiman Marcus Award in 1956 and presented her first runway show in Florence’s Sala Bianca at Pitti Palace in 1963. During the 1960s, the brand expanded into clothing, including jersey garments using trompe-l’oeil printing. Its designs were exhibited in a Whitney Museum retrospective in 1980, followed by a Japanese licensing arrangement beginning in 1982 or 1983. Sixty Group acquired the brand in June 2008; United Trademarks Group acquired it from Sixty in 2014 and is its official trademark owner. The brand’s public identity remains centered on Venetian heritage, velvet, craftsmanship, color, trompe-l’oeil effects, and fashion accessories.
