Roberta di Camerino
Roberta di Camerino was founded in Venice in 1945 by Giuliana Coen Camerino, who had begun designing leather bags in Switzerland in 1943 while her family was displaced during World War II. After returning to Venice, she developed the brand around distinctive, colorful bags; its name combines “Roberta,” taken from the film Roberta, with Camerino, her husband’s surname. The brand’s visual identity brings together Venetian craftsmanship, neo-Baroque references, velvet, trompe-l’œil effects, unconventional shapes, and a recurring red-green-navy palette. The Bagonghi bag became a defining design, with Grace Kelly owning it in multiple colors and the style becoming known as the “princess bag.” Following the success of its bags, the house expanded into accessories, shoes, and clothing, including trompe-l’œil garments, and held a design exhibition at New York’s Whitney Museum in 1980. Sixty Group acquired the brand in 2008, and United Trademarks Group acquired it in 2014 and identifies itself as its official trademark owner.
