Roger & Gallet

Roger & Gallet was founded in Paris in 1862 by brothers-in-law Armand Roger and Charles Gallet, who inherited the Jean Marie Farina Eau de Cologne business and formula. Its deeper fragrance lineage reaches back to Aqua Mirabilis, formulated by Giovanni Paolo Feminis in 1693, and to Jean Marie Farina’s Paris perfume house, founded in 1806. From its early years, the house combined fragrances with perfumed soaps and broader toiletry and personal-care products. In 1879, it created a round soap perfumed through its core, a format and cauldron-making method it identifies as enduring house markers. Its creative history includes work with René Lalique: the 1910 Cigalia bottle was his first design for Roger & Gallet, and he later created about a dozen bottle models for the house. In 1932, Roger & Gallet established its rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré location as La Boutique du Bonheur, linking its public identity to a Parisian artistic milieu associated with Mucha, Icart, and Fabiano. L’Oréal finalized the sale of the brand to Impala on 29 June 2020, after which it became one of the heritage cosmetic brands assembled under Laboratoire Native. The Jean-Marie Farina Eau de Cologne was the brand’s first fragrance and is a landmark scent.
