Rosendo Mateu
Rosendo Mateu’s professional perfumery career began in 1968. Before creating his own label, he spent more than four decades at Puig and trained with Marcel Carles in Grasse, Arturo Jordi Pey in Geneva, and Max Gavary in Paris. His work at Puig included Agua Brava, Brummel, and Quorum. In 2014, Mateu began developing a fragrance label with his son Joan Mateu, creating the first four fragrances under his own name; the label launched in Spain with four fragrances at the end of 2015. Joan described the project as a tribute to his father and a way to transmit the family’s perfumery knowledge, and he was identified as co-founder and brand manager in 2022. Rosendo Mateu died in May 2022 and had been appointed an academician of the Perfume Academy in 2021. Rosendo Mateu 7 was described as a special project developed over years around patchouli, combined with oud, vanilla, and benzoin.
