Rosendo Mateu Olfactive Expressions

Rosendo Mateu Olfactive Expressions was created as perfumer Rosendo Mateu’s personal fragrance project after a career creating scents for other brands. Mateu and his son Joan began developing their own collection in 2014, and four numbered fragrances, Nos. 1–4, launched in Spain at the end of 2015. A later formalized launch stage is dated to 2017, after three years of collaboration and with five initial fragrances. Mateu worked at Puig for roughly 45 years, was a perfumer from 1968, and received the Maître Parfumeur title in 2010. Joan described the project as a tribute to his father and to the family’s accumulated perfumery knowledge. The Black Collection followed in 2019 as a three-fragrance line. After Rosendo Mateu died in May 2022, the family business continued, with Joan developing the 2023 Olfactory Journeys collection from formulas by his father. The house’s collection-led identity is organized around the Main Collection, Black Collection, and Olfactory Journeys. No. 7 provides a material-focused example, built around patchouli with oud and a vanilla-benzoin facet.
