Roxana Illuminated Perfumes

Roxana Illuminated Perfumes was launched in 2007 by Roxana Villa in connection with the Ojai Lavender Festival. Born in Buenos Aires and raised from age three in Los Angeles, Villa moved from editorial illustration into aromatherapy in the 1990s after an experience with juniper essential oil at a sweat lodge; she later trained and became certified in professional aromatherapy. An artists’ workshop in Austria helped her bring visual art, perfume, alchemy, and plant materials together, shaping a handmade botanical perfumery built from whole plant materials and guided by artistic practice. The house’s concept-driven fragrances often engage environmental or social themes. Q, Villa’s first launched perfume, was built around the California native oak Quercus agrifolia and has a woody green chypre profile. Vera, the first fragrance debuted under the brand, was developed for the Ojai Lavender Festival around lavender and the Ojai landscape. Villa is the owner, and the perfumery was relocated with her husband to Santa Fe in 2017 and recreated there in June 2018. Each fragrance is paired with imagery by Greg Spalenka, while solid perfumes use beeswax and botanical infusions.
